Role: Animator/2D Artist
Monkeystack are recruiting for the upcoming production of 2D adult animated series, YOLO: Rainbow Trinity. (Michael Cusack’s creation for Adult Swim).
The Animator/2D Artist will be integral to creating high quality 2D animation. It is a key requirement of this role to be a proficient illustrator / animator and have a good understanding of key phases of a 2D animation pipeline. Hand drawn animation techniques (non-rigged) will be completed primarily in Adobe Animate, so a strong understanding of the software is essential.
It is expected they will have a keen eye for detail, be able to critically assess their own work, and be able to take instruction and action feedback effectively. The Animator/2D Artist must be a genuine team player who is prepared to work in a fast-paced studio with strict animation quotas and deadlines. It is expected the Animator/2D Artist will assist management by educating junior staff wherever possible.
Key tasks to be performed include:
- 2D Character Animation
- 2D Art for Props and Backgrounds
- 2D Illustration
- 2D Effects Animation
- Motion Graphics / Kinetic Typography
- Compositing and Post-FX
- Editing and Output Deliveries
- Maintaining asset registers and task logging
- Assisting / educating Junior Animators where required
Other Tasks may Include:
- Storyboarding and Pre-Production
- General office duties and any other duties the employer may assign to you, having regard to your skills, training and experience
Specific Role Skills:
- 2+ years’ experience as an Animator/2D Artist
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Animate
- Excellent understanding of the 2D animation pipeline
- Good understanding of Adobe After Effect and Photoshop
- Good level of proficiency of animation pre-production including storyboarding
- Good level proficiency in managing animation assets for relevant animation pipelines
- Ability to adapt to industry developments and new Company directions
- Good understanding of optimisation and delivery of video and image file formats
- Sufficient generalist skills to perform support tasks for other key artists when required
General Skills and Personal Qualities:
- Be computer literate and have good IT troubleshooting skills
- Be patient and able to concentrate for long periods while maintaining attention to detail
- Have strong communication and organisation skills
- Work well as part of a team and on your own initiative
- Be able to take direction and critical feedback from senior staff and clients
- Be able to follow a brief
- Work well under pressure and to strict quotas and deadlines
- Help Monkeystack to maintain a clean and organised work environment
- Be a brand ambassador for Monkeystack
The Animator/2D Artist position is a short-term contract (8-14 weeks) with a start-date planned for early-July 2024. The role is at a full-time equivalent hours working onsite at our studios in Adelaide.
Preferred candidates will be South Australia-based and able to work onsite in our studio. However, we may consider applicants with exceptional experience from elsewhere in Australia.
