Adult Swim: YOLO Crystal Fantasy & Silver Destiny

2D Animation, Animated Series

Monkeystack produced animation for Michael Cusack’s adult 2D animated series YOLO Crystal Fantasy (2020) and YOLO Silver Destiny (2022), commissioned by the WarnerMedia-owned network Adult Swim and produced by Princess Bento Studio.

YOLO Crystal Fantasy was the first time that Adult Swim has commissioned a series outside of the US and, as they put it, “one of the weirdest things we will ever air”.

Justin Wight (Monkeystack co-founder and CEO) Co-Produced the series and Monkeystack put together a team of 19 to produce the 8 x 10min episodes for the first season. We think that this was one of the largest 2D animated series ever produced in South Australia.

Two Australian party girls, Sarah and Rachel, look for fun times, new experiences, positive vibes, and hopeful horoscopes in the bizarre town of Wollongong in this animated series.  Sarah’s quest is to find love, whereas Rachel hungers for chaos, often bringing them into conflict as they encounter surreal Australiana, strange bush creatures, and eccentric nomads.

YOLO Silver Destiny follows YOLO Crystal Fantasy (2020), the first series order Adult Swim had ever made outside the US and, as they put it, “one of the weirdest things we will ever air”.

For over 10 months, our talented team produced the series that follows the surreal misadventures of friends Rachel and Sarah as they traverse the strange land that is Australia. (Sarah attempts to look for social acceptance and love while Rachel wants nothing but partying and chaos.)

YOLO Crystal Fantasy premiered on Sunday, August 9 2020 at midnight US ET/PT on Adult Swim, and had it’s Australian premiere on May 28 2022 on Stan. as a Stan exclusive., with it’s own homepage banner and immediately ranking highly in their Trending on Stan category.

News of the series premiering on Stan. was received across multiple outlets including Nine.com.au, Pedestrian.tv and Screen Realm. Needless to say, cult fans were thrilled to see the series available!

Content Warning. The series is rated TV14LV in the US so not suitable for children under 14.
