Our ‘Curious Creatures’ birds, co-created by Jimy McGilchrist, that fed out of your hand or took a snap if you came on too strong and ‘Feeding Frenzy’, developed as part of the ‘It’s Complicated’ exhibition at MOD. (who generously allowed it to be used at Light Creatures), the school of fish that are always one step ahead of the kids who attempted tirelessly to catch one, saw children and adults alike discovering the joys of interacting to the point where you forget this isn’t a real-life creature in front of you.

We are lovers of anything that combines innovation, technology and entertainment to create an unforgettable experience. Light Creatures was no exception. The project demonstrates what we refer to as ‘technical artistry’, in this case, the combination of intricate animation and gaming elements with high-spec projectors and innovative sensor technology developed from games consoles.

We produced the engaging E-Learning platform for web delivery, providing services including concept design and development, User Interface (UI), art and animation, and interactive presentation development to create multiple interactive presentations containing text, small ‘sprite’ animations, and interactive mechanisms such as quizzes, word match, worksheets, Q&As and embedded video. The content was suited for year 5/6 students and based on lesson plans and teacher resources, with the goal of increasing participant’s physical literacy skills and mental wellbeing while also creating lifelong physical activity and healthy habits.

Magic & Mayhem is an adventure quest game with a narrative focused on consent in relationships, demonstrated as the user chooses characters to take on their quest, with some displaying more enthusiastic responses than others, what outfit they should wear and to assign an item per character; from potions the character can use when needed to magical beans forced upon the character.

Players are faced with multiple choice options along their quest that define an end summary covering topics such as alcohol and drugs, enthusiastic consent and body language. The aim of Rize Above’s work is to assist young people to develop skills to have healthier more equal relationships, and to support caregivers and professionals to become allies with these goals.

You can play Magic & Mayhem in Rize Above’s Game Zone.

Players can choose to play as Dots or Diamond and solve the mysterious case of the missing mummies by navigating through the multiple levels of the museum with fun challenges, puzzles and mini games along the way. The game is an entertaining and engaging experience aimed at users aged 9-11 with a story that holds players attention throughout as they unravel the mystery. Exo Pexo games are built upon the values that education and entertainment can exist in the same product and to encourage kids to love to learn, for life.

The Dots & Diamond journey doesn’t stop with The Mysterious Case of the Missing Mummies, with an animated pilot for a Dots & Dimond series available from Monkeystack.

Dots & Diamond: The Mysterious Case of the Missing Mummies is available to download:

The capacitive screen is 98” and can manage 50 simultaneous touches providing an interactive play space for up to 5 visitors at one time –  which is a good thing as the interactive shows 139 animated character scenes, that trigger 135 card decks, containing 312 double-sided digital cards covering 110 climate change impact facts! We ‘twinned’ the development, with two identical screens and servers located in both Adelaide and Sydney meaning the Museum exhibition team could play as we built.

Visitors can explore the impacts of climate change in the Australian region, both now and in the future as temperatures continue to rise, in the engaging and visually delightful interactive noted as an Exhibition highlight.

The Monkeystack studio produced all of the 3D models and textures for a full fleet of destroyers, aircraft carriers, cruisers and battleships as well as planes, submarines, torpedoes and depth charges. All of the models are authentically recreated from hundreds of drawing, plans and reference images.

War on the Sea is available on the Steam Store to download and play on PC and Mac.

Monkeystack developed and produced the game as our own IP within our Exo Pexo brand of ‘edutainment’ games for young people.

Welcome, Operative, to F.A.B.L.E. – aka the Federated Association of Believers, Leaders, and Explorers. Your mission is simple: teleport on board this foreign spaceship and connect with the alien. As you explore this new world, there are protocols to follow. Make sure you check in with the alien as you go, follow the principles of consent, and achieve a two-way flow of information that will benefit both of our races.

Commissioned by MOD., Monkeystack set about creating an AR triggered app-based experience inspired by early 90s game graphics that is played by moving through the room. The experience can best be described as Barbarella meets the Muppets!

Featuring 6 interactive stations including 3 mini games, visitors to MOD. are guided through the experience via an app on their phone using AR marker recognition and BLE beacons installed throughout the exhibit. The app and interactives all communicate to an offsite database which changes conditions and the user journeys of each unique visitor based on how many people are in the room, leading to a rewarding experience for all

Our brief was to inform, excite and encourage overseas businesses to level-up and unlock the infinite opportunities available in the Australian digital games industry, find their team and access a vast range of benefits – all while championing the success of home grown games studios.

Working with our Player 2, the amazing team at IGEA (Interactive Games & Entertainment Association), we received over 400 submissions from studios across seven states & territories to represent Australia in the showcase. Our capability and understanding of games design and being active members of the games industry was just the XP needed. Achievement Unlocked: Australia.

On the surface, Double Happy is a manic tale of good vs. evil, but the stories are underpinned by philosophical and spiritual themes, also exploring quantum mechanics and super science. The audience really can decide how deep they want the rabbit hole to go!

Double Happy Vs. the Infinite Sadness was a co-sponsor of the Indie Games Room at AVCon 2013 and 2014 alongside Uni SA, where it has become one of the most memorable properties at the annual event.
